Same Number–Two Stories

It’s so easy to get hung up on numbers. Especially when that number is staring back at you on a scale. It’s something that seems like it should be black and white—your health and overall physical being, nicely packaged up in a number. But that number is so very deceiving. And that number can also tell you a tremendous amount of lies about your well-being. And those lies can lead to insecurities. And, friends, your worth has nothing to do with that silly number.

That being said, I want to share with you a story about WHY the scale is so deceiving. I recently received my annual bloodwork results. I’m roughly the same weight this year as I was this time last year (between my 2020 and 2021 tests, I put on and lost roughly 18lbs). But, in February 2020 I was not working out, and I was not balancing my nutrition.

Same weight, but the difference in my test results? INCREDIBLE. Guys, my overall cholesterol is down 13% and my LDL (the “bad” cholesterol) is down 25%. My triglycerides are down 40%. HOLY MOLY! And this is after only 4 months of working out consistently and balancing my nutrition with wholesome goodness. And if you missed this earlier—THIS IS AT THE SAME WEIGHT ON THE SCALE!!!

In case you need me to say it again…your wellness is not measured by the scale. Your healthiness is NOT how big or small is that number. Your wellness is about balance and movement. It’s more than dieting and obsession (both of which are not sustainable and can cause damage). It’s your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It’s about developing consistent, healthy habits that energize and fuel you to do more and to be more every single day.
